Corey, I am sending you an email covering telephone and customer service problems over the past 10-15 years. I do not want to deal with anyone else at this point, and neither does my husband. I thought I was dealing, but I’m not and neither is he. Not since reading your note.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the ongoing issues with our service when it rains that would be frustrating to say the least. If you email me your Qwest account information I will forward it to our repair department head and hopefully solve this ongoing issue.

Thank you,

I'm having trouble with isolation, too. It's not easy to fix. First I need to find the groups, then I need to arrange for transportation. Both are easier said than done. {rueful smile}

Ugh. That "RaceFail" looks like a whole lot of people talking past each other, and no one stopping listen, let alone think. {half-smile}

Actually similar flame-wars have been happening in Hawai'i for... at least as long as the Europeans have known where to put our islands on their maps. If not longer. {half-smile} The differences are: the whites are as much a minority (or two) as any other group(s), and they aren't guaranteed to come out on top. They and some of the orientals are more likely to come out on top these days, but you certainly can't guess which one, and it isn't even guaranteed it will be any of them _this_ time. {pause}

{raise hands} No, I'm not claiming we're doing well. We have a long ways to go, and I do know it. But it does make for a different viewpoint in such messes. {Smile}

The name it continues to go under is Race-Fail. Somewhat of a summary is here: http://fanlore.org/wiki/RaceFail_'09

Having grown up as an outsider in a for the most part homogeneous small town in northwestern Minnesota, and having attended and graduated from a college 25 miles from home, I was always aware of being one of the (ridiculed, unwanted, ignored, despised, etc.) minority. And so the majority of my life over the past 64 years has been quite solitary. (As in, I worked to make money to buy books, and spent all the time that I could in my apartment or in the park, writing, reading, and thinking.) I haven't mixed much or maintained relationships other than with Al. It may seem odd, but I soon felt out of place in my family of origin, also.

Everything seems equally alien, most of the time. However, I am making more of an effort to establish context, these days, from sources other than novels. Having spent the better part of 60 years reading books rather than being around people, and becoming steadily more allergic since my middle school years to people and their homes, offices, stores, schools and churches, it's not as easy as it might seem. Might help if I could stomach watching television, I suppose, but I just can't make that leap.

What's this "culture wars debacle?" {curious look}

Somehow culture clash is such an integral part of life here in Hawai'i, I can't help but be intersted. {GRIN}

I will have to check back in Mom's book to find out whether we have any details or not.

Authentic rendition is here; I've got the sheet music, lyrics and accompaniment. My dad's version is slightly different, but pretty close to this one.
